Call for Participants: Manitoba Film & Music Grant Writing Incubator

Planning to apply for Manitoba Film & Music’s Produce program? MusicWorks and Indigenous Music is launching a new grant application incubator program for beginner to intermediate artists and industry professionals in Manitoba who are recording a single, EP, or album for commercial release, and want to apply for MFM’s upcoming September 21, 2023 deadline. 

Participants will be paired with experienced mentors to guide them through the application process over a five-week period with the intention of submitting the application to MFM. The incubator will cover: 

  • Identifying and gathering the necessary information to include in their funding application 
  • Evaluating their plan critically and make appropriate changes to strengthen their submission
  • Reviewing examples of successful funding applications to better understand what funders  are looking for
  • A virtual tour of MFM’s new online funding application portal

This program will focus heavily on the marketing, project plans, appropriate funding levels, and sonic quality of the demo recordings being submitted and will only briefly cover business registration, application forms, and budget.

Important Dates:

Incubator application deadline: August 3, 2023 at 4 PM 

Confirmation of participation: August 8, 2023 at 4 PM

Info session: August 10, at 6 PM

To participate in the program, applicants must:

  • Be a professional artist or company working with artists based in Manitoba
  • Be eligible to apply for MFM programs (see applicant requirements here)
  • Have a release timeline and project plan that is relevant to the deadline on September 21, 2023
  • Be available for four one-hour mentor sessions either (in-person or virtual
  • Be available for a final review meeting with the MFM staff
  • Have assessment tracks recorded and ready by the program start date:
    • For a commercial single release: one quality, unreleased demo
    • For a commercial EP or album release: two quality, unreleased demos
  • Watch or attend upcoming the MFM info session video on August 10, 2023 to ensure they’re ready and prepared to meet with a mentor
